Copy Editing

Take my ‘advice’ and read this article carefully if you want to understand the importance of copyediting but I ‘advise’ you not get entangle in its wordings. Now you must be thinking that I am trapping you in its terminology but my sole aim is to tell you the relevance of copyediting. I do not think that I should tell you how a word alters the meaning of whole sentence. A prudent reader identifies the smallest mistakes very quickly and leaves the page at ones. The job of copyeditor is to make the copy:

Clear
Correct
Concise
Comprehensible
Consistent

Typically, copyediting involves the following things:

Spell Check
Correct use of terminology
Correct punctuation
Grammatical and Semantic error free copy

You can expect from your copyeditor that the text flows should be consistent, and it will not provoke any legal problems. Copyeditor is the last person who rectifies whether the text is publishable or not.
